Creative Lighting Hands-On Workshop
Step beyond traditional portraits and into the world of expressive, story-driven imagery.
This immersive 4-hour event is designed for photographers who want to experiment with creative lighting, artistic concepts, and unique visual storytelling.
Through a live demonstration and guided photo stations featuring models, curated lighting setups, and imaginative tools, you'll explore techniques that elevate your portraits into art. Whether you're building your portfolio or looking to break creative blocks, this hands-on experience will challenge and inspire your vision.
Sessions:
Part 1: Live Demonstration with Kate Hailey
Kate will guide you through a series of creative lighting setups. This segment is designed to inspire new ideas while offering practical, approachable techniques for photographers.
Part 2: Guided Creative Photo Stations
Work with multiple pre-lit sets and models, each designed to encourage exploration and storytelling, as well as implement ideas shared in the first session. Attendees will rotate through stations in small groups, providing time to experiment and capture a variety of portraits. Kate will be on hand to provide guidance, answer questions, and help you refine your vision as you shoot.
There will be a short break between sessions.
Light snacks and refreshments will be available.
Gear Recommendations:
- Film or digital cameras
- A portrait lens (50mm–85mm range is ideal)
- Fully charged batteries and plenty of memory card space
Skill Level:
Attendees should have a working understanding of ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and white balance, and know how to adjust these settings on their camera.
This workshop is open to all levels of photographers. Even if you're new to working with lighting, you'll leave with practical techniques and creative inspiration you can apply right away.
