with Mike Vraneza

Date: Friday, November 15, 2024
Time: 9:00am-12
:00pm
Location: TaborSpace (SE Portland)

Bring your camera--this is a hands-on workshop!

Learn how to unlock the world of macro photography and it’s endless potential for creative expression in this hands-on guided workshop. Instructor Mike Vraneža will review and demonstrates the specialized equipment, techniques, and software you’ll need to capture microscopic detail in everything from flowers to insects to jewelry and more.

First we’ll identify key concepts of basic tabletop studio equipment as well as macro photography gear that differ from more typical photography situations. We’ll review lenses, cameras, support gear, and lighting equipment and provide best practice approaches. Next we’ll start with a demo utilizing a tethered camera, TTL live view, and workflow demonstration. Afterwards you’ll capture your own unique images in a controlled “open studio” environment with Mike as your guide, and learn how to apply these techniques in the field.

What you should bring:

Your camera, preferably a mirrorless or dSLR camera, and a tripod

Any other macro gear you may have (lenses, extension tubes, macro ring light, etc)

Any small subject matter you might want to photograph

Lighting equipment (in a group environment continuous lighting is preferred, but strobe can be used while respecting others’ workflow)
