OREGON PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS ASSOCIATION
Date: July 11, 2023 Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Location: At a photo studio in inner SE Portland Now HYBRID! This workshop will also be offered streaming. (As always, live streaming classes are contingent on tech running smoothly!)
This class will teach you how to scan your film with a digital camera.
Digital camera scanning is still a relatively new way of working with film. Most photographers aren't aware of the enormous benefits of scanning film with a digital camera. Not only is it fast (you can scan a whole roll in less than 5 minutes), but you also get all the flexibility and clarity of a raw file, giving you much more tonal range to edit the images.
We will walk through the equipment and software needed, the process of capturing the negatives, and how to edit the scans in Lightroom. We will go through the process of scanning a few frames 35mm and 120 and see how fast it is! After we scan the roll, we will walk through converting the images with Negative Lab Pro in Lightroom. From there, you'll have a good understanding of how you can do this on your own.
Nathaniel Perales has been shooting film for over 12 years. His goal is to continue the craft despite the hurdles of the dying film industry. After years of expensive and disappointing lab scans, he discovered digital camera scanning and has never turned back. He aims to share his insights and process to help empower others to continue shooting film.
